Creative Writing

I have a passion for creative writing and have written for
Readers Digest magazine in the UK, I own a website
http://www.recipesupermart.com/ where I write
on the blog section on a regular basis.

When children get Homework related to creative writing,
I encourage them to use their imagination and "create"
situations that don't exist in reality.
It takes me minutes to "cook" up a story and
the children love it.
They get immersed in the story to such an extent that
many a times, they want to start writing on their own.

One of my students was asked to write about
"A fancy chicken" and this is what I created in 10 mintues,
sit back and enjoy.

The Fancy Chicken

The Fancy Chicken
In a small town in Greenland, famous for its citizens eating
their poultry from breakfast to dinner, the chicken population
was so scared that as soon as a hen laid an egg,
everyone pounced on it and it was gone in a jiffy.
So scared were the chicken that one-day all the surviving
families of chicken decided to hold an emergency meeting.
Since there was danger everywhere the leader
Mr Brave heart decided to hold the secret meeting
above the empty space in the barn. As a decoy,
two hens made of rubber were placed in the hay below
to deceive the chicken hungry farmers.
At the stroke of midnight all the surviving chicken gathered
in the barn, secretly tip toeing with bated breaths,
since they knew that if the farmers found them out,
they would be cooked at the drop of a hat.
In the meeting, Mr Brave heart made a decision and
everyone agreed that one egg would be saved
from each family, in the hope that a miracle chick would
save the entire dying population of the chicken in Greenland.
As each day passed the hopes of the chicken were dying
because no matter how hard the chicken tried to save
the eggs, the farmers would find them out and have them
for breakfast. It was a hazy, cold morning and
the mother hen had been sitting on her brood of eggs
for a long time, when suddenly she felt a kick from below.
She jumped up and saw an overgrown chick stepping out
in style from its shell, confident and it had a certain attitude
to it. Suddenly, the chick said “Where am I and who are you?
The mother couldn’t believe her eyes and thought that
she was dreaming because the little chick was green in colour.
The mother decided to name him “The Fancy Chicken”
because there was nothing normal about him and in her heart
she knew that the saviour of the chicken kind was born.
In a couple of weeks the little chicken had already started
to prove its worth, he was fearless, confident, stylish,
walked with a swagger, and knew that he had a job in hand,
from playing the most naughtiest of pranks to bringing hope
to the chicken community, Mr Fancy Chicken was
the new hope of the chickens in Greenland.
The fearless chick who had now grown up as a handsome
adult knew that the chicken population was vanishing,
so he cooked up a secret recipe in the farmers kitchen,
while they were sleeping.
The recipe was passed onto all the chicken in Greenland.
The recipe kicked the daylights out of the farmers because
as soon as the chicken had the little pellets made
by Mr Fancy Chicken, they immediately developed
magical Karate skills.
Whenever any farmer tried to approach the chicken,
they jumped up in the air and kicked the daylights out of them.
Soon, the word spread that the chicken were experts
in marital arts and anyone who came near them,
would get beaten up thoroughly.
Day by day the chicken community grew in Greenland
and Mr Fancy Chicken was named the Mayor of the city.
The farmers, who loved eating eggs and chicken,
suddenly became vegetarian.

I always co-relate my work experience to
my teaching methods.

I had been working in the Hospitality Industry for over
25 years and with the sudden closure of the Five Star Hotel
that I was managing in Central London in 2008,
I decided to come back to Singapore to start teaching in
a University here.

A close friend of mine suggested that I should utilize
my spare time to teach English to the Japanese community
in the city.

Over the past couple of years I have built a solid reputation
with both young learners and Adults learners who have shown
keen interest to learn the Queens language.
Consequently, I have learnt a lot from the Japanese
community too.

I have used my rich work experience in the Service Industry
as the foundation to impart education to my students.
Teaching from the books can be very boring but
if a person can relate teaching to real life situations,
then the lessons become more interesting and practical.

Moreover, I teach my students in such a way that
they not only learn the language but also become better
human beings, so that they can use their language skills
in actual situations on a day to day basis.
